Rubén Mendive is a queer, formerly undocumented, Mexican immigrant raised on the South Side of Chicago. Now like any other full-fledged U.S. citizen, he’s monetizing his trauma for personal gain while still holding a grudge against our country’s backwards immigration system. His therapist categorizes this grudge as "unproductive." His storytelling focuses on outsiders who forge communities to challenge the norm, all while having fun, embracing chaos, and finding a home in our strange country. He was in Lena Waithe’s 2022 Hillman Grad TV Writing Mentorship Lab, a 2022 Outfest Screenwriting Lab Fellow, and selected for the 2023 NHMC Series Scriptwriters Program. He is also the host of La Lista: A Latinx Writers Podcast, a platform dedicated to connecting & highlighting Latinx voices in media. He is currently based in Los Angeles.
